Nigel Rayment from www.nigelraymentboutique.co.uk says the Royal Wedding has had a huge effect on the hat trends which has continued into 2013. We have found that since the Middleton’s came into the media, the disc styles have taken over from the large hats. These discs are on a head band and are so comfortable to wear. And great for photos as you can see the face clearly! It’s really important to make sure that, whatever you wear its not too overpowering and you personally feel good. If a mum buys an outfit separately from their hat, they often have a problem finding a perfect match, but Nigel has the answer: in our London boutique mums can buy all the occasion wear brands and get a hat made to measure and dyed to perfectly match any colour. We have hundreds of shapes so there’s a hat for everyone-its just about finding the style that suits you.

You will have seen a Jovani mother of the bride outfit or dress before. Even if the only time you read a fashion magazine or Hello is in the hairdressers, or in the myriad of waiting rooms we spend hours of our lives in, you will have seen their dresses. Jovani is the New York based fashion house adored by the kind of A-list celebrities who want to strut and float down the red carpet in a designer dress with the serious wow factor. You’ll have seen stunning Jovani evening wear on the likes of Katy Perry and Hollywood starlet Taylor Swift, and their sumptuous gowns on European aristocracy such as Sarah Ferguson. Jovani is an internationally recognised brand that has been gathering awards since the family owned business was founded in 1980. We have cherry picked the best of the best of the Jovani evening wear collection and mother of the bride dress range to become an important addition to our dedicated red carpet room. It is in this room you will find our celebrity stylist and seamstress, Cathy McCarthy, who is on hand to ensure an excellent fit every time. As with all their collections, a Jovani mother of the bride dress has been crafted to suit all types of women and is available in size 6 to 32. Beautiful long silk chiffons and silk taffeta are meticulously crafted into exquisite dresses that radiate the perfect level of sophistication and glamour your want from your special occasion wear.
Not content to keep our secret any longer, we had to tell you we have now brought to the Nigel Rayment boutique a new label we know you’ll just adore. Whether it’s for a divine mother of the bride dress or evening wear that has a carefree dash hidden in the beautiful folds and drapes of the dress, Pronovias is a pioneering bridal label steeped in history. This Spanish, family-owned, fashion house has its roots in a 1920s Barcelona bridal shop that specialised in lace, silk and embroidery. Pronovias’ longevity is due to the persistence of the family to continually innovate and experiment. In 1964, against the tradition of bespoke bridal wear, Pronovias presented its first prêt-a-porter bridal collection. Pronovias mother of the bride dresses and bridal gowns now have a reputation for bagging the front covers of European editions of Hello, Vogue and bridal magazines the world over. With such an in-depth knowledge of brides it is little wonder that the company has a dedicated Pronovias mother of the bride dress collection. This range is a superb blend of sublime elegance reminiscent of old school Hollywood glamour mixed expertly with an ultra modern cut and styling. This is why we are so very pleased to be the only outlet in Central London for Pronovias Fiesta Mother of the Bride and Red Carpet collections.
Hats set off special occasion wear wonderfully well and are fantastically fun to wear. Yet how big does your hat need to be? Well as much as it comes down to personality, our selection of Nigel Rayment hats are often carefully matched with our select range of designer mother of the bride outfits and evening wear. Finding the right proportion is a finely honed skill you’d expect from a milliner in London, and you can take expert advice from our specialist stylists to discover the right head piece from our designer and couture hats. It is well known that the mother of the bride will choose from the myriad of designer hats to mark her daughter’s wedding and a wide sweeping brim topped with delicate feathers is almost expected. There are times when the seemingly simple fascinator adds the dash of elegance required for a garden party. The biggest day of year for hat shops in London is of course Ascot (although the forthcoming Royal wedding will skew the trend this year). This is the event when women hope their hats for Ascot will be more sumptuous, more dazzling than any other. It is the time of year when a hat can never be too big.
Buying special occasion wear or evening wear is an opportunity for seriously glamming up your wardrobe. Little else will increase the anticipation seeing your stunning mother of the bride dress hung on the door waiting to go into its garment carrier, or a vibrant cocktail dress laid out on the bed as you prepare your makeup. A dress with a couture background adds an extra frisson because the craftsmanship that goes into creating a couture dress is the culmination of a designer’s drive for purity in every cut and stitch. We stock couture designers such as Linea Raffaelli, Ian Stuart and Paule Vasseur who, whilst different in styles, all invest a passion for perfection every couture dress they make. With a Paule Vasseur mother of the bride dress we know its sublime structure and attention to the smallest detail gives it a timeless quality that lends it the versatility to also be worn as evening wear or to a formal garden party. Every boldly beautiful Linea Raffaelli dress has been crafted by a Belgian family-owned fashion house and, as with the jet-setting couture of Ian Stuart’s Neapolitan collection, will give you a thrill whether it’s worn at a cocktail party or wedding feast.
We’re celebrating right now because our debut at the National Wedding Show was an outstanding success. It was an exhausting three days, but the event was an absolutely amazing experience. Our stand was in a great location opposite the bridal gowns in the black-carpeted boutique area.
The show’s organisers wanted to utilise our stand so mothers who were waiting while their daughters tried on wedding dresses could browse through our Condici mother of the bride fashions. We were visited by more than 3,000 mums over the three days. They were in raptures over the special occasion outfits and co-ordinating hats from some of our key; – Ian Stuart, John Charles, Linea Raffaelli, Condici and Ann Balon collections.
On the colour and fabric front, our visitors loved the blue, pewter and lilac shades in the John Charles collection and the bright blue, pink, cream and black two-tone outfits from Condici. They also liked the chalky pastels by Ian Stuart, Ann Balon’s exquisite lace fashions and the vibrant shades from Linea Raffaelli. Once again, Ian Stuart stole the show for our visitors. At least 50 per cent of the mums wanted to wear his collection.
There was a lot of interest in the 16 to 26 size range, so our model Jane Russell was a great asset to the stand. She wore size18 fashions from the different collections and, because she’s a mature model, she could easily relate to the mums.
We were also asked to take part in the How To Look Good catwalk show where we had a short interview and talked about this season’s styles and designs for mothers of the bride and groom.
. The show’s venue at Olympia was perfect because it’s a five-minute cab ride to the Nigel Rayment Boutique in New Quebec Street, Central London, so mums, daughters, sisters and other relatives could pop into the shop to look at our fabulous hats and fashions afterwards. In fact, we had record sales at the shop over the weekend. Our sales were up by £20k across the three days.
We’re looking forward to attending the next National Wedding Show in October when we will also be featuring a new label called Pronovias from Milan. The brand has just gone into mother of the bride and cocktail fashions, and we’ve been asked to be their Central London stockist.
Last weekend’s National Wedding Show had a record 13,000 brides through the doors. We certainly feel as though they all visited our stand with their mums!
